VERSION 5 FEATURES:

1. The default panel is now designed for 16:9 widescreen monitors. If you use a different monitor refer to the Other Monitors folder in the FSX/SimObjects/Airplanes/dc6pnlKMCC folder.

2. The two speed supercharger system is now set up by default and is available for FSX.

VERSION 4B FEATURES:

1. The plane is now equipped with a Polar Path Compass, for using the autopilot in polar regions. Refer to the Polar Path Compass Readme.txt file in the FS/Aircraft/dc6pnlKMCC/DC6-B PANEL OPERATIONS file for details.

VERSION 4A FEATURES:

1. There is now a checklist file available from the kneeboard (F10).

VERSION 4 FEATURES:

1. There are two interior layouts, freight and combi (combination freight and passenger). Specify these for a specific livery in the aircraft.cfg file by:

Freight: model=
Combi: model=combi

With large spinners:

Freight: model=spinner
Combi: model=combispin

2. Opening doors. The doors will open using the following commands:

Shift E: Passenger door
Shift E 2: Forward Cargo Door and Underfloor Doors
Shift E 3: Crew Door
Shift E 4: Rear Cargo Door

For the combi version keep the rear cargo door closed.

3. Interior. Both versions have interior walls, while the combi also has a dividing bulkhead and passenger seats in the rear compartment. This interior is not intended to be an accurate depiction of an actual interior, for close inspection. It is adequate as you are looking in through the doors.

4. Ground equipment. There is a ladder and forklifts for the freighter version. There is a forklift and airstairs for the combi. Thanks to John MacKay for the airstairs and Nikko Yaginuma for the forklifts. They will appear if you have the engines stopped and parking brake on.

5. Cargo. You can display cargo in the cargo compartments by pressing the keys for the tailhook. NOTE: This key is not set by FS by default; you must activate it:

a. In FS: Options/Controls/Assignments menu
b. Scroll down the list and find Tailhook Up/Down (if not there, choose All Commands from the drop down box above).
c. Click on that line.
d. If there is a keyboard entry already listed, press CANCEL and use that key combination.
e. If no entry, press a keyboard combination to use for this command. I use SHIFT T.
f. Click OK.

VERSION 3C FEATURES:

1. To display the airstairs, you must apply the parking brake, shut down engines 1 and 2, and open the passenger door using Shift E.

2. To display the maintenance stairs, you must apply the parking brake, shut down engines 3 and 4, and open the crew door using Shift E 3 (hold down the Shift key and press E, then release both keys and press the number 3 key on the main keyboard).

3. You can also open the underfloor baggage doors by pressing Shift E 2. Their main lighting is controlled by the baggage compartment light switch on the overhead panel in the 2D cockpit and the VC. They will also come on by turning on all the lights with the L key.

4. To display the chocks, you must apply the parking brake and shut down the engines on that side of the plane.

5. There is some mesh deformation around the opening doors; I have minimized this as much as I am able (I'm not a GMAX expert). Thanks to Milton Shupe, Bill Leaming, and others at the FreeFlight Design Shop for help in reducing this.

6. The colors of the airstairs are controlled by the stairs_t.bmp texture. It can be night lit using a proper stairs_L.bmp texture, but this has not yet been done. The stairs_t.bmp file of the DC-6B PSA livery is plain bare metal, and can be used for any repaints that do not come with a specific stairs texture.

7. The color of the maintenance stairs and interior cabin is controlled by the Interior.bmp file. These can be copied to other liveries to get the color of the stairs/interior you want. Interior textures by Manfred Jahn, modified by Frank Gonzalez and Tom Gibson.

VERSION 3B FEATURES:

1. The CHT value displayed is now based on fuel flow (related to horsepower) instead of using the FS defualt variable, which is mostly dependent on RPM (incorrectly). You can also click the CHT gauges to display two numbers for each engine. The top number is the "target" CHT that will be reached eventually; the bottom number is the current CHT displayed digitally. Click again to remove the numbers.

VERSION 3 FEATURES:

1. Damage Module by Robert Graf. This module has been a separate addon, and is now incorporated into the basic package. To activate this module click twice on the NO WARN message in the FE/NAV Notepad until Damage appears. See the separate Damage Module Readme.txt file for information on this new feature. NOTE: The Damage setting will remain active between FS sessions, and will affect all aircraft that use this damage system.

2. Fuel Dump System. There is a new FD icon on the panels. Click this and a fuel dump subpanel will appear. For details refer to the CalClassic Modifications page in the FS9/Aircraft/dc6pnlKMCC/DC6 PANEL OPERATIONS/Start Here.htm or FSX/Simobjects/Airplanes/dc6pnlKMCC/DC6 PANEL OPERATIONS/Start Here.htm file. NOTE: This gauge requires FSUIPC to be installed into your flight sim program. Get it here: http://www.schiratti.com/dowson.html You must install the correct version for your flight sim version!

3. Automatic Fuel Loading. On the CalClassic Planner notepad page, if you plan a flight and then click on the green Total Fuel value your fuel load will be filled to that value. The main tanks will fill first, and then when full the AUX tanks will fill (as per the fuel loading diagram in the CalClassic Modifications page of the panel manual). This will also fill your water and oil tanks. If you already have the amount of fuel listed on the Total Fuel line then no extra fuel will be added, but the water and oil tanks will be filled. This can only be done on the ground with engines off and parking brake set, otherwise the value will not be green and cannot be clicked.

4. Oil and Water/Methanol Refilling. If on the ground with engines off and parking brake set you can refill the individual oil and ADI water levels by clicking on the Oil Quantity and Water Quantity gauges. You can also refill them all by using the Notepad Fuel Autoload feature.

OTHER FEATURES:

1. Real prop reverse (throttle to idle, click reverse lever, power to 30" MAP, allow plane to slow down, throttle to idle to go back to forward thrust)

***************************************************************************
The DC-6 was developed as a faster, larger, and pressurized
version of the DC-4 which first flew in 1946. This popular
airliner was faster than TWA's new 049 Constellation, and
allowed one-stop transcontinental service in 10 hours. When
more powerful P&W R-2800 engines became available, Douglas
decided to stretch the DC-6 by over 4.5 feet to produce the
DC-6B. The first DC-6B flew in February, 1951, and the first
operator was American Air Lines. Production of the DC-6B
reached 288 by the close of the production line in November,
1958. Produced in parallel with the DC-7 series, many airlines
found the DC-6B to be preferable to the DC-7's. The DC-6A was
a very similar plane designed especially for freighter service.

The reason for this preference is due to the impressive
operating statistics of the DC-6B. It had the best operating
economics of any large piston airliner of it's time, and
passengers also appreciated it's quietness, smoothness, and
general comfort. Douglas sold more DC-6B's than any other
civil airliner in the DC-4 to DC-7C series, which indicates
it's popularity with the public and the airlines. The virtues
of the DC-6B have endeared it to many recent operators, and
several are still flying today.
