INSTALLATION:

This EXE installer will NOT create a Start Menu entry, registry entry, uninstall program or anything else, other than copying the relevant files to the proper folders. You may install to a temporary folder by pressing the ... button and copying things by hand if you wish.

NOTE: You must have instelled the DC-6B CB-16 Base Pack to get the panel and sounds!

Quit FS if it is running before installation.

1. Using My Computer or Windows Explorer, examine your FSX/SimObjects/Aiplanes folder for a folder called DC-6A CB-17. If you find it, rename the aircraft.cfg file inside it to aircraft_old.cfg. If you have added any extra liveries, you will use this backup file to add the extra livery sections to the new aircraft.cfg file. YOU WILL LOSE YOUR ADDED LIVERY SECTIONS (if any) IF YOU DO NOT BACK UP THIS FILE.

2. Double click this file archive to open it. You will find this text file and a file called SetupFSX.exe.

3. Double click the SetupFSX.exe file to start the installation. Press the Run button at the warning screen. If it doesn't find your main FSX folder automatically *or you are installing into P3D*, press the ... button and browse to your main FS folder.

4. If you are using anything other than a 16:9 widescreen monitor, read the text file inside the Other Monitors folder inside the SimObjects/Airplanes/dc6pnlKMCC folder for further instructions.

Also, follow the FSX Propliner Tutorial found at http://www.calclassic.com/propliner_tutorial_fsx.htm

5. To add more liveries to this Base Pack or to replace the liveries you moved to the Removed folder (other than the Base Pack livery), follow the instructions found in the Adding Liveries.txt file in the plane's folder. If desired, copy the GlobalEnv_AC_Chrome.dds file from the default livery and paste it into any added liveries. This will give a better display of reflections, in my opinion. This file is from Bob Rivera and is globalenv_texturesv1.zip at AVSIM.

After installation of all the files, start FSX/P3D and the plane(s) will appear in the Select Aircraft menu. If you see duplicated variation entries, you did not remove all old aircraft.

The DC-6 was developed as a faster, larger, and pressurized
version of the DC-4 which first flew in 1946. This popular
airliner was faster than TWA's new 049 Constellation, and
allowed one-stop transcontinental service in 10 hours. When
more powerful P&W R-2800 engines became available, Douglas
decided to stretch the DC-6 by over 4.5 feet to produce the
DC-6B. The first DC-6B flew in February, 1951, and the first
operator was American Air Lines. Production of the DC-6B
reached 288 by the close of the production line in November,
1958. Produced in parallel with the DC-7 series, many airlines
found the DC-6B to be preferable to the DC-7's. The DC-6A was
a very similar plane designed especially for freighter service.

The reason for this preference is due to the impressive
operating statistics of the DC-6B. It had the best operating
economics of any large piston airliner of it's time, and
passengers also appreciated it's quietness, smoothness, and
general comfort. Douglas sold more DC-6B's than any other
civil airliner in the DC-4 to DC-7C series, which indicates
it's popularity with the public and the airlines. The virtues
of the DC-6B have endeared it to many recent operators, and
several are still flying today.
