************ 1960/1967 Liverpool Speke Airport Scenery **************

by Tom Gibson

Requires the EGGP VFR Landmarks Old Airport zip file

Version 1, 1/07, for FS2004 only.

Support available at: http://calclassic.proboards.com/board/3/calclassic-discussion

I've produced this scenery to provide taxiways and details as they were around 1960 and 1967
for Liverpool Speke Airport (EGGP). The airport in 1960 was relatively small, with two runways
of 4192 and 5627 feet long. In 1966 another runway opened, somewhat far away from the terminal.
This runway is 7500 feet long. The old runways were only rarely used after this, if ever. A
new terminal next to this new runway finally opened in 1986. The old terminal has been converted
into a hotel, and the old runway area has only recently been developed for other uses.

This scenery uses the wonderful old terminal scenery created by Paul Derbyshire (DerboSoft).
The installation procedure was contstructed to comply with his restrictions found in that file.
You must download this file (eggp_old_airfield_v3.zip) from AVSIM or another site.

If you do not have another airport texture addon, I suggest that you download and install
airland1.zip from AVSIM or elsewhere. It increases frame rates while adding detail to the
concrete and asphalt aprons, taxiways, and runways.

AI propliner and GA traffic matching this scenery is available separately from
www.calclassic.com (AI Aircraft page).

Airport surfaces created with AFCAD2, by Lee Swordy - thanks Lee!

This scenery uses the people library from Geoff Williams and Martin Strong, and the ESDG
Ramplight library from Bill Leaming (available at AVSIM). Wonderful job, guys!

Produced using ExcBuilder by Paavo Pihelgas, Ground2K4, EZ-Scenery by Abacus. Thanks to all!

PLEASE NOTE:

1. If you have already installed some of the EGGP VFR Landmarks scenery, make sure you have
installed the old terminal file. If not, install it as described below.

2. You should have *either* EGGP 1960 or EGGP 1967 layer active, NOT BOTH. You should have
the EGGP VFR Landmarks layer active all the time, even in modern times.

INSTALLATION

This EXE installer will NOT create a Start Menu entry, registry entry, uninstall program
or anything else, other than copying the relevant files to the proper folders. You may
install to a temporary folder by pressing the ... button and copying things by hand if you wish.

1. Download eggp_old_airfield_v3.zip from AVSIM or another site. At AVSIM,
go to the File Library, click Extended Search, enter the file name in the filename
box, and click Search.

2.Quit FS2004 if running.

3. Unzip this EGGP67.zip file archive into a temporary folder. You will find
this text file and a file called SetupEGGP67.exe. (WinXP: double click the zip file)

4. You have already downloaded eggp_old_airfield_v3.zip file. Install it as described
in the instructions (copy the EGGP VFR Landmarks folder into the FS2004 Addon Scenery
folder). We'll activate it later.

NOTE: This zip file is copyright Paul Derbyshire, and is subject to the restrictions
in his text file. This installation procedure was designed to comply with them.

5. You will need to move 4 files from the EGGP VFR Landmarks/Scenery folder into the
EGGP VFR Landmarks folder:

EGGP_Old_Airfield_Flatten.bgl
EGGP_Old_Airfield_Flatten_A16N.bgl
EGGP_Old_Airfield_Flatten_exc1.bgl
EGGP_Old_Airfield_Flatten_exc2.bgl

If you don't, your AI aircraft will be floating above the ground next to the terminal.

6. Double click the SetupEGGP67.exe file to start the installation. If it doesn't
find your FS2004 folder automatically, press the ... button and browse to it.
(WinXP: press the Run button at the warning screen.) Follow the instructions to install.

NOTE FOR NEXT STEPS: If you have already installed some of these scenery packages,
you may have at least some of the required scenery layers installed. If so, skip that
step (see below).

7. Start FS2004, and go to the Settings/Scenery Library choice on the
opening screen. If you are currently flying, press Escape (Esc) and then End
Flight to get to this screen. Look at the top portion of the list. If there is no
EGGP VFR Landmarks area listed there, click on the Add Area button. Double click the
ADDON SCENERY folder. Click the EGGP VFR Landmarks folder once. Click OK.

8. If there is no EGGP 1967 area listed there, click on the Add Area button.
Double click the ADDON SCENERY folder. Click the EGGP 1967 folder once.
Click OK. The EGGP 1967 layer MUST be above the EGGP VFR Landmarks layer!

8. If there is no EGGP 1960 area listed there, click on the Add Area button.
Double click the ADDON SCENERY folder. Click the EGGP 1960 folder once.
Click OK. The EGGP 1960 layer MUST be above the EGGP VFR Landmarks layer!

10. Uncheck either the EGGP 1960 or the EGGP 1967 layer to inactivate it. You
should have *either* EGGP 1960 or EGGP 1967 layer active, NOT BOTH. You should have
the EGGP VFR Landmarks layer active all the time, even in modern times.

11. If you have any addon scenery for EGGP, Liverpool John Lennon, etc. uncheck
that scenery's Active box to inactivate it.

12. Click OK. Quit and restart FS.

13. If at the main screen, choose Create Flight at the left, select desired items, and
press Fly Now. Choose Options/Settings/Display. Under Scenery Objects set the
Scenery Density to Dense or less (setting to Very or Extremely Dense will display modern
jetways at default airports). Also, set the Autogen Density to Dense or less
(any higher may display telephone poles in odd places at the airport); this will also
simulate the less dense cities found in the era. Click OK.

If you have a less powerful computer and you get low frame rates, try setting the Scenery Density
to Normal or lower. This will remove detail objects and improve the frame rate.

14. (Optional) If you want white taxiway lines AROUND THE WORLD, rename the
taxiway_marks.bmp file found in the FS2004 TEXTURE folder to
taxiway_marks.bmp.yellow. Then copy the taxiway_marks.bmp file found in
the FS2004/Addon Scenery/EGGP 1967 folder to the FS2004 TEXTURE folder. Restart
FS.

If you want yellow lines again, rename this current taxiway_marks.bmp file to
taxiway_marks.bmp.white, and rename the taxiway_marks.bmp.yellow file to
taxiway_marks.bmp. Restart FS.

15. If you later want to fly in the modern era, just go into the Scenery Library
(Settings/Scenery Library) and click on the Enabled box next to the EGGP 67 and EGGP 1960
entries until the red check marks are removed to deactivate the 1960 and 1967 scenery. If
you have white taxiway lines, revert to yellow by renaming the current taxiway_marks.bmp
file in the FS2004 TEXTURE folder to taxiway_marks.bmp.white, and rename the
taxiway_marks.bmp.yellow file to taxiway_marks.bmp. Check any inactivated addon scenery
areas for Liverpool.

If you want aprons and roads around the old terminal, move the 4 BGL files we moved in
Step 4 back into the EGGP VFR Landmarks/Scenery folder. This is optional.

You must restart FS after you do all of this.

Reverse this process again to go back to 1960 or 1967.

airliners can be downloaded free from Tom Gibson's Classic Airliner web site at -
